November 11th, 2012
Filming today, the perilous staircase fight sequence!
November 10th, 2012
Working from 8:45am until 2:30am on "Los Angeles Western." Working today as writer-director-producer-camera man-editor. Today we filmed all of the poker sequences with our intrepid hero (The Woman With No Name) and the mysterious villain. We also recorded the soon-to-be-famous underwear scene, and the very eerie basketball court confrontation.
Security chased us at approximately 12:30am, in which I grabbed the camera on the tripod and ran. In killer clown-ish make-up. It was a sight to see!
(Note: We are very pleased with the performances from our actors thus far!)
November 3rd, 2012
Filming today in the California desert for "Los Angeles Western." Today I function soley as a producer. It's interesting to be looking at things soley from a time-money-shot coverage perspective, while not concerning myself with creative decisions. Matt is directing today's sequences.

February 12th, 2012
DEAD DOORNAILS is scheduled to undergo a remastering process, afterwards to be available for retail. It has never looked better, returning to its originally intended 4x3 aspect ratio, richer colors and digital removal of some objects that crept into the edge of the frame on a handful of shots during filming. The not-so-serious-yet-loveable story has been left in tact, with all of its "drive-in" style charm. (What else can you say about a feature that was made for 2 grand on a handful of weekends?)
January 1st, 2012
Happy New Year! A great year of change for all of us!
November 19th, 2011
An excellent screening tonight at Raleigh Studios, Hollywood! Our premiere of the Super Girl TV Pilot (along with 7 other Madigan Films classics!) was right next door to Shockfest 2011. Amid all of the ghouls and horror-movie celebrities our screening was well received. The cast members and audience loved it!
(Note: 7 of he 8 movies last night were shot on either standard definition digital video (simulated 24p) or super 8mm (18fps), with the exception of the Super Girl pilot episode (shot HDV 24f). All of the movies looked incredible on the big screen. Super Girl was transferred to standard definition for this screening (for technical programming reasons), and the level of detail in the movie theater was incredible. Almost TOO incredible. I love the depth and power of HD, and yet I also love the look and feel of well-lit standard definition. I am emphatically saying that no format is better or worse than any other, it REALLY does depend on each movie. For new filmmakers reading, the project itself will speak to you on how it wants to be shot, and your movie will be no better or worse than any other as long as the right camera/format for that particular motion picture is honored.)
November 14th, 2011

Happy 4th! Super Girl is in the fine cutting stages. Almost time for digital FX to be added, then music scoring!
June 27th, 2011
Rough cut number one of Super Girl done. I like the fight sequence. I'm an editing machine! Digital technology is so cool. We shot this movie with HDV at 24 frames per second. Looks nice, so much depth in the image with this format!
June 26th, 2011
Finished the battle scene in Super Girl last night, we went late. about 2:30am. Shot it a bit different than my story board and shot list, but no mjor deviations. We didn't have enough time last night, in my opinion, to get to the location, block out the action and shoot. But I'm impressed with how the footage looks so far!
Thanks to the actors and our three person "crew" who stayed late and worked to make this happen!
Today is Sunday, and we are filming the remaining scenes.
June 25th, 2011

July 5th, 2010
Today I started the restoration and remastering process of a very interesting 2004 interview I shot. I was shocked that one of the camera original tapes was somewhat defective (the second tape was perfect), but I was able to extract the footage, and I'll be enhancing the image and sound just a touch before creating new masters and DVD's.
Also did some low light testing on my palm-sized HDV camera. I'm amazed at the picture quality.
July 4th, 2010

Just got back from the red carpet of the Video Game Awards 2008! We got to talk with All American Rejects and Tony Hawk among others, but Jack Black was busy rehearsing! Though his Tenacious D pal ran by us like a truck! Mike Tyson was there too, but we ddin't get to speak with him. I was able to see a magnificent talk over the weekend by Ray Bradbury at UCLA's Festival of Books. He was very open and friendly and encouraged all of us to only do what we love regardless of what anyone else says, or money. He also described his writing process as "a lark," a free, loving, soaring experience rather than an intellectual or academic one.
April 26th, 2008
The new script for the new vampire short is finished! Auditions for this movie coming up in May. This is going to be a striking and spicy piece of cinema!
April 18th, 2008
I'm knee deep into my new short screenplay, and it has taken an interesting new turn! Instead of straight forward horror, I'm combining the fear of the unknown (a mysterious disease) with a solution of the spiritual nature.
Also, my brother Toby and I have started discussing some great books on our new online show DOWN TO EARTH. Check it out and leave us a comment or two if you feel the urge!
In other news, I'll be at Barney's Beanery in West Hollywood tonight watching the hockey playoffs! Go Wings!
April 11th, 2008
Life is good! I am currently writing two screenplays. One is feature length and I'm hoping to shoot it next year. The other is a short--I'll be making another experimental/silent movie this year, as I'm recently inspired by Carl Dreyer's VAMPYR, which was based on Irish ghost writer Sheridan Le Fanu's story. DEAD DOORNAILS is being considered for the Hollywood Film Festival and Route 66 Film Festival as we speak! Put in a good word for us!
March 20th, 2008

Happy New Year! I just cut together a couple trailers for my pal Doug Agosti from Aftershock Productions. They have a new DVD coming out this year called "Dr. Shock's Grindhouse Horrors." (Warning: Even the trailer is not for the faint of heart!) It's creepy, overt-the-top, culty low budget horror stuff!
October 27th, 2007

Yesterday I completed the second rough cut for "Suit Coat." It's coming along very nicely, and this cut moves much better than the first! I'll keep editing away at it!
Also, check your in boxes for the new e_zine issue, big #5! Here's the teaser!

During April 7th, 8th and 9th I shot my fifth short movie since moving to LA. It is a dramatic-thriller called "Suit Coat." It's the best cast and crew I've worked with yet! Take a peek at as shooting, HERE! The new movie is currently in post, and I'm happy to say that today I've finished the very first rough-cut! I also had the opportunity to sit down and edit with Jimmy Smits twice last week. It was a specific reel he needed cut. The new MadiganFilms.com E-zine issue will appear fairly soon, I promise!

Comic-Con in San Diego was a blast! I managed to meet Kevin Smith, in front of over 7,000 people in a giant auditorium. We dialigued back and forth for several entertaining minutes in front of the sometimes booing, sometimes cheering crowd. In the end though, he asked me to give him a copy of "TRICK." He almost played it in front of the entire audience, but the venue was strapped for time. He walked off the stage saying "sorry we didn't get to watch "TRICK," but I get to f---in' watch it!" And he exited. All in good fun!

Writer/Director Tom Madigan appeared on "Horror Kung Fu Theatre" today in Los Angeles, speaking about the new silent vampire movie LURE OF THE WICKED.

Our new short, "LURE OF THE WICKED," came out great! It's a silent vampire movie shot digitally on my new Panasonic DVX 100a. Take a look! Another new short we just created called "AN EXTRA DIGIT" to be part of a series of shorts called "Project Create." We were allowed no budget for this and were allowed to shoot on one day only, then turn in the final cut in one week. It was fun to make and fun to watch!
